One of the things I'm most inspired by are photographs of real life, in the moment, as it happens. It can be challenging to get those moments in an authentic way with clients in the short time-span of an hour-long session when you're on-location and everyone knows they're there to get their picture taken.
What I would really love to be able to do is book half-day or even some full-day sessions and be the fly on the wall for a family as they go about a normal day. From breakfast to a walk around the neighborhood to spontaneous dance parties and time-outs to brushing teeth and saying goodnight. The little stuff of daily life where you find love that is willing to set aside everything else for the care of each other. It can be messy and imperfect and full of dusty shelves, sleepy eyes and wrinkled shirts and lost tempers, but that's part of what's beautiful about it, don't you think?
Since I don't often get the chance to take photos like that for other families, I'm working on doing it more often with my own. I hope this will become a regular thing on this little blog to keep pushing myself and trying new things, so I'll be posting scenes from my life at home. The first installment comes from this Easter weekend, which included the news of a new baby in the family (a niece!) and celebrating and teaching our kids the good news that Jesus is alive.
If you're interested in a session like this please email me and we can talk details. I would love to do more and more work like this.
"I'm asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I'll contemplate his beauty; I'll study at his feet. That's the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world..." Psalm 27:4-5 (The Message)
